Biography
Enrique Machado is a south Florida based artist whose work explores the intersection of fluid form, abstraction, and material innovation. His artistic journey began early, nurtured through Miami’s competitive visual arts magnet programs, including South Miami Elementary, South Miami Middle, and Design and Architecture Senior High. In 2004, he graduated from the renowned New World School of the Arts.
Machado went on to study sculpture at the Kansas City Art Institute on scholarship, where he deepened his exploration of materials and space. In 2007, he discovered silicone, a material that would become central to his practice. Drawn to its organic texture and physicality, Machado replaced traditional brushes with a caulk gun, turning his process into a hybrid of painting and sculptural performance.
His signature technique - layering silicone and resin to create tactile, wave-like forms, has evolved over the years, with recent works incorporating abstracted stock chart patterns as a reflection of his fascination with market behavior and repetition.
Recognized as one of Miami’s emerging talents, Machado has been featured by respected voices in the art world, including critic Carlos Suarez De Jesus (Miami New Times) and curator Jorge Luis Gutierrez (Triennial Miami). His work has been exhibited in prominent galleries and art fairs such as Art Miami, Red Dot, Spectrum Miami, Art Spot, and Aldo Castillo Gallery, as well as local spaces including LMNT Gallery, Gallery 212, 1310 Gallery, The Hangar Gallery, Ave 74 Gallery, Flagler Art Space, and Buena Vista Gallery.
Artist Statement
My work explores the fluidity of form through silicone and colored resin, originally inspired by the flow of water and ocean waves. Over time, this practice has evolved into an abstract language shaped by my obsession with stock charts and trading patterns. What may appear as dripping waves or colorful flows is often a repetition of specific stock formations - like the reverse head and shoulders-pattern painted over and over, hidden in plain sight.
Using a caulk gun as my brush, I create dimensional line drawings that mimic both organic movement and the structure of financial data. My newest series, Color Drip, continues this interplay, resin-enhanced waves that visually pop while subtly echoing stock paths and chart patterns. Each piece builds upon the last, layering past techniques with new intent.
Ultimately, my art is a visual manifestation of pattern recognition - where market logic meets abstract fluidity, and obsession becomes form.
